The upcoming Global T20 (Gt20 Canada), set to commence on July 20, marks the return of the tournament after a four-year break. This edition will feature six teams, with two of them making their debut in the competition.
Over the course of 18 days, a total of 25 matches, including four playoff games, will be played. The final match will take place on August 6 at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario. Fans can anticipate a display of high-quality cricket, as the lineups will consist of both current and former cricket stars.
Renowned players such as Shahid Afridi, Shakib Al Hasan, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Rizwan, Andre Russell, Chris Gayle, and Chris Lynn are among the notable names participating in the tournament.
When it comes to Indian players, only two will feature in the Global T20 Canada 2023. Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh will represent the Brampton Wolves as a marquee player, while right-arm seamer Jaskarandeep Singh Buttar will play for the Mississauga Panthers.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) maintains stringent policies regarding Indian players participating in foreign leagues, making it uncommon to witness a significant Indian contingent in various T20 leagues worldwide.
Both Harbhajan and Jaskarandeep hail from Punjab, India. Harbhajan, an iconic figure in the sport, has amassed over 700 international wickets throughout his illustrious career. On the other hand, Jaskarandeep has had a relatively quieter journey, having represented India A and the Deccan Chargers in the IPL. He currently holds 26 T20 wickets to his name.
Jaskarandeep’s most recent appearance was during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in March 2022, a domestic cricket tournament in India.
