The Rajasthan Royals took on the Gujarat Titans in match 23 of the Indian Premier League 2023 on April 16, 2023, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After winning the toss, Rajasthan captain Sanju Samson elected to bowl first, and his decision paid off immediately when Trent Boult dismissed Gujarat’s Wriddhiman Saha in the very first over of the innings.

Boult’s dismissal of Saha marked the 20th time since the 2020 edition of the IPL that he has claimed a wicket in the first over of an innings, a unique and impressive record. Saha managed to flick Boult’s inswinging yorker for a boundary, but was caught out on the very next delivery when he tried to flick another good length delivery, edging it high into the air. Boult himself managed to catch the ball after it popped out of Samson’s gloves, leaving Gujarat in trouble early on.

The New Zealand pacer has played a total of 82 IPL matches since his debut in 2015 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, claiming 98 wickets at an impressive average of 26.45 and a decent economy rate of 8.28. Boult’s most successful IPL campaign was in 2020, when he took 25 wickets with career-best figures of 4/18. So far in the ongoing tournament, he has taken six wickets in four appearances for the Rajasthan Royals.

Boult’s impressive performance in the IPL has earned him high praise from fans and fellow players alike.

Some users have tweeted that Boult is “the next coolest player they have ever seen after Dhoni.”

With Boult’s early wicket setting the tone for the match, Rajasthan Royals will be looking to maintain their advantage over the Gujarat Titans and secure a victory in the crucial encounter.
