WWT20 match 19: Windies vs England: Report

In a game which was mattering less as both teams were actually in the final, Windies held their shape to finish top of the table in group A. Their main strength in this tournament has been their collapse-inducing bowling. They have bowled out the teams in their first three matches of the tournament including an excellent performance against the South Africa to bowl them out on 76 runs.

Their main performer is Deandra Dottin who have booked 9 wickets and is the leading wicket-taker of the tournament. In this match, she pulled his team from a critical condition by showing her batting moves. Windies chased down 116 in last over.

England Innings:

The top-4 batters of England haven’t crossed 30 runs in this tournament. Danielle Wyatt tried to take on the bowler in the first over but coming down the pitch but sliced it to mid-off with the new batter Ellen Jones in the 4th over. A collapsed the enveloped the England team when they were 50/6 in the 11th over.

A good partnership between Anya Shrubshole and Dunkley Brown saw England passing that 100 mark. England top-order is yet to flourish in this tournament. Although their bowling is at a high, but wasn’t good enough to beat the Windies.

Windies Innings:

Windies were not at ease chasing 116. Anya Shrubsole after contributing her best in batting took the responsibility of knocking the pegs of Hayley Matthews and Stafanie Taylor with some beautiful inswingers. Deandra Dottin seemed like she never took the pressure of the early demise. She attacked back with some brutal slog-sweeps to not give England any upper hand. Though she fell on the attempt of another slog sweep, she had done enough damage to find 116 not very hard.

The scores of 46 from Dottin and 45 from Shemaine Campbelle were enough to win the match until 2 wickets fell in succession and gave England some hope. It was all over when Kycia Knight on his first ball creamed a drive on the off-side to win the thriller with 3 balls to spare.
