Asia Cup 2022 to be shifted to India or UAE from Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Cricket has stepped down from hosting the Asia Cup 2022 in view of the ongoing economic and political crisis in the country.

Sri Lanka Cricket has also informed the Asian Cricket Council that it cannot host the Asia Cricket Cup 2022.

According to Sri Lankan media, Sri Lanka Cricket informed the ACC of its decision yesterday stating that it is not possible to hold the event due to the current political and economic crisis.

It has been said in the media reports that the final decision has not been taken to hold the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, the venue of the Asia Cup can be any other including India.

Sri Lankan media report said that Sri Lanka will first hold final talks with the Emirates Cricket Board for the cricket venue and that the Asia Cup will be hosted by Sri Lanka.

The event kicks off on August 27 while the final will be played on September 11. It is pertinent to mention that India and Pakistan are set to face each other in the group stage game on 28th August.
