Batting Maestro: Babar Azam Turns 27

Babar Azam, the world’s number one ranked ODI batsman, celebrated his 27th birthday on Friday. Babar Azam, who was born on October15, 1994 in Lahore, gained fame as a member of Pakistan’s Under-19 cricket squad. In 2010, and 2012, he was Pakistan’s top-scoring batsman in two Under-19 World Cups. He captains Central Punjab in domestic cricket and plays for Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League. He made his ODI debut on May 31, scoring an impressive fifty with 54 runs of 60 balls. King Azam became the 1st and the fastest player around the globe to score 7000+ runs in T20 cricket. The right handed batter, Azam is the captain of all three formats of cricket for Pakistan Cricket Team. Whenever he bats, his name is written in the history books.

A shocking fact for all, but, Babar Azam is the cousin of the famous brothers Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal.

“We didn’t have to lead him, he was alone, but we supported him all the time,” his cousin Kamran Akmal said in an interview.

Babar Azam holds the record to be the first player to score three back to back centuries in consecutive innings. He played the knocks of 120, 123 and 117 against West Indies during Pakistan’s 3- match ODI series in 2016. He also became the first player to score a half century on both test and ODI debut.
