Delhi Capitals Women finds a big win over UP Warriorz Women

The fifth match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) concluded with Delhi Capitals Women taking a 42-run win over UP Warriorz Women as they defended the target of 212 runs.

UP Warriorz Women won the toss and elected to field first in the game.

Delhi Capitals Women who got an invitation to batting first in the match started their inning with the team captain Meg Lanning and Indian star Shafali Verma. While Shafali Verma got out at 17 runs in 14 balls, Meg Lanning stayed in the field for more than half the first inning playing a solid 42-ball 70 runs innings. She was bowled by Gayakwad in 11.3 overs. With Jemimah Rodrigues and Jess Jonassen adding 34*(22) and 42*(20) respectively for the team, Delhi Capitals Women posted a solid target of 212 runs to UP Warriorz Women as Delhi Capitals Women finished the first inning at 211/4 on the scoreboard.

Shabnim Ismail, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Tahlia McGrath and Sophie Ecclestone took a wicket each in the match for UP Warriorz Women. UP Warriorz Women conceded 11 extras to Delhi Capitals Women while bowling.

UP Warriorz Women started the second inning for the chase with the team captain Alyssa Healy and Shweta Sehrawat. Alyssa Healy made 24(17) in the match with Shweta Sehrawat making 1(6) for the team. Jess Jonassen took three wickets for Delhi Capitals Women with Marizanne Kapp and Shikha Pandey taking a wicket each. Delhi Capitals Women conceded 11 extras to UP Warriorz Women while bowling.

After the win, they are stable in the second position in the points table with UP Warriorz being stable in the third position after the match where they faced the very first loss of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) T20.
