In an unexpected turn, the Indian Premier League 2025 has been suspended for one week, triggering a mass exodus of foreign cricketers. With mounting tensions between India and Pakistan, the situation has prompted all ten IPL franchises to begin sending their squads home, especially prioritizing the departure of overseas players and support staff. Safety has taken center stage, as IPL 2025 overseas players leaving India are now becoming a common sight at major airports.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) halted the 18th edition of the tournament following consultations with Indian government authorities. The official directive cited national security concerns as the reason for putting the lucrative cricket league on pause. While domestic players await further updates, many of the 62 foreign cricketers involved are already booking outbound flights.
Overseas Players Are Leaving India Amid Growing Anxiety
A ripple of anxiety has moved through the cricketing world, with both overseas players leaving India and their respective cricket boards taking active roles in ensuring safety. Cricket Australia and Cricket West Indies are monitoring the situation closely, evaluating the welfare of their players in both the IPL and the PSL.
A senior IPL team official acknowledged the underlying concern, stating, “The players are doing well, but of course, there is concern among them.” Behind the scenes, logistical operations moved swiftly. The Indian Railways arranged a special Vande Bharat train to transport players, commentators, and crew members to New Delhi for expedited departures.
The suspension, though initially brief, has raised questions about the future of the remaining IPL matches. With foreign players hesitant and flights being arranged at short notice, the possibility of a full resumption remains uncertain. As the situation continues to unfold, overseas players leaving India reflects a broader sense of instability surrounding international cricket during geopolitical crises.
