Lancashire sign Jayawardene as non-overseas player for T20 Blast

Lancashire sign Jayawardene

Mahela Jayawardene, the former Sri Lankan captain, has signed up for Lancashire Lightning in England’s domestic Twenty20 competition – T20 Blast. The veteran batsman, who made it as a non-overseas player because of his Danish wife, Christina, will be available for the entire duration of the tournament and will join the squad in July. He has previously played for Sussex and Somerset in the competition.

“I haven’t won the NatWest T20 Blast in my career and it’s a trophy I’d love to experience success in this summer with Lancashire Lightning,” said an elated Jayawardene.

The tournament kick-starts on July 7 with Lancashire scheduled to play their first game against Leicestershire Foxes at Emirates Old Trafford on July 9.
