Rizwan overtakes Babar Azam to become the No.1 T20I batter

Mohammad Rizwan has taken the No. 1 ranking of the ICC Men’s Player Rankings for T20Is after his exceptional performances in the Asia Cup. Mohammad Rizwan has become the new No.1 ranked T20I batter in the world, overtaking Babar Azam. He is the only third Pakistani player to be No.1 in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings after Babar Azam and Misbah-ul-Haq.

Rizwan has been in stunning form in the T20 Asia Cup 2022. He is currently leading the run charts with 192 runs in 3 matches. Rizwan followed up his Player of the Match effort of 78 off 57 deliveries against Hong Kong and a knock of crucial 71 off 51 against India. These match-winning innings helped him move from 796 rating points to a career-best 815. 

Babar Azam ruled the top of the table for 1,155 days while Misbah-ul-Haq was at the top for 313 days. Meanwhile, Mohammad Nawaz’s match-winning 42 off 20 against India helped him move up to 358th in the rankings. Shadab Khan also moves up one spot to No.14 after 4/8 and 2/31 against Hong Kong and India respectively. 

Indian Players Rankings:

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has reached 13th position after scoring 72 against Sri Lanka in their Super Fours match. While former captain Virat Kohli is at 29th position after scoring 60 against Pakistan. Ravichandran Ashwin moved up eight places to 50th and Arshdeep Singh to 62nd position. India’s Suryakumar Yadav has dropped to fourth place in the latest update of rankings.

Australian Players Rankings:

Australian fast bowler, Mitchell Starc has moved up three places to 12th. While leg-spinner Adam Zampa has moved two places to 18th. Australia’s David Warner has also moved up one place to sixth position among the batters.
