Mohammad Nabi Early Life

Mohammad Nabi, nicknamed “Nabi,” was born on January 1, 1985, in Logar, Afghanistan. He hails from a Pathan family and moved to Peshawar with his family at the age of 10. At a young age, Nabi developed a passion for cricket and began playing the sport in Peshawar. He later returned to Afghanistan in 2000.

Nabi’s cricket journey started in his teenage years when he began playing in local matches. He is an all-rounder known for his off-break bowling and right-handed batting skills. In 2003, he made his debut for the Afghanistan team against Raheem Yar Khan, where he scored an impressive 61 runs.

Over the years, Nabi’s career flourished. He played against the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in a tour match in Mumbai, India, in 2006, where he scored a century with 116 runs. This performance led to his selection by Mike Gatting for the MCC Young Cricketer program in England.

One of Nabi’s notable achievements was leading Afghanistan to victory in the 2014 Asia Cup against Bangladesh. However, he resigned as captain after the 2015 Cricket World Cup due to the team’s poor performance.

In the 2016 ICC World Twenty20, Nabi showcased his skills, helping Afghanistan defeat Zimbabwe and Hong Kong in the tournament. He played for the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League in 2016 and joined the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League in 2017.

Nabi’s international career includes playing in Test matches and the Cricket World Cup. He made his Test debut against India in 2014 and participated in the 2019 Cricket World Cup, representing Afghanistan against Pakistan.
