BCCI and Star Sports India have resolved a dispute over a television broadcasting agreement for cricket matches in India. The original deal covered the conduct of 102 games, but one extra match was played by BCCI during the period, causing the 103rd clash to become a bone of contention. The additional match amounted to INR 78.90 crore, which was not included in the original deal worth INR 6138.1 crore.

To resolve the dispute, BCCI has waived off one match from the scope of Star India, bringing the total number of matches during the rights period down to 102. Sources close to Star India have stated that the original Media Rights Agreement included 102 games and therefore, there should be no question of Star India paying extra for the 103rd match.

This is not the first time a similar issue has arisen between the two parties. In 2020, matches were cancelled and rescheduled due to COVID-19, prompting Star India to ask for a waiver of INR 139 crore.

The resolution of the current dispute has brought clarity to the broadcasting agreement between BCCI and Star India. It remains to be seen whether any further disputes will arise over the course of the agreement.

The resolution of the dispute is a positive development for both parties, as it allows them to move forward with a clear understanding of their contractual obligations. The short-term impact of the resolution is expected to be minimal, but it could have significant long-term implications for the relationship between BCCI and Star India.
