Dwayne Bravo has announced his retirement from International Cricket after the end of the West Indies campaign in the T20 World Cup. West Indies are eliminated from the race for the semi-finals on Thursday after they lost against Sri Lanka.
Speaking about his retirement, Bravo said,
“I think the time has come, I’ve had a very good career. To represent the West Indies for 18 years, had some ups and downs. But as I look back at it I’m very grateful to represent the region and the Caribbean people for so long.”
“To win three ICC trophies … One thing I am proud about is that the era of cricketers we had. We were able to make a name for ourselves on the global stage and not only do that but have silverware to show for it,” He added.
International Career:
Bravo has played 40 Test Matches 164 Odis and 90 T20Is for the West Indies. Bravo made his international debut in April 2004 against England in an ODI. He played his debut against New Zealand at Auckland in 2006. He has scored 1,245 runs at an average of 22.23 and a strike rate of 115.38. The star all-rounder has picked 78 wickets.
Dwayne has played for the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. He also played for Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators in Pakistan Super League.
End of WorldCup Campaign:
Bravo said his job now was to pass on his experience to the younger generation.
“We can’t play forever, we have to accept reality. For me now I want to try and pass on whatever experience and information I have with the younger players. In the white-ball formats, West Indies cricket has a bright future and we need to keep supporting the guys and keep encouraging them.
“It wasn’t the World Cup we expected, it wasn’t the World Cup we wanted as players, but we shouldn’t feel sorry for ourselves. It was a tough competition, we should keep our heads high.” He said.
West Indies could not qualify for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup as they lost three matches out of their four matches. West Indies will play their final Group 1 game against Australia in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
