South Africa finds first win of the World Cup as they restrict New Zealand in the chase

The seventh match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 concluded just now with South Africa finding the first win of the tournament after they restricted New Zealand to 67 runs in a run chase of 133 runs.

In the match, South Africa Women won the toss and elected to bat first.

Batting first, South Africa Women made 132 runs at the loss of 6 wickets. The top run contributor for the team in making the total was Chloe Tryon with 40 runs off 34 balls. Nadine de Klerk followed Chloe Tryon in the most run-scoring batter for the team list with 28 not-out runs off 26 balls.

Eden Carson, Lea Tahuhu and Hayley Jensen took 2, 2 and 1 wickets respectively for New Zealand Women in the game. New Zealand Women conceded 9 extras to South Africa Women while bowling.

While chasing the 133 runs target in the second inning, New Zealand Women struggled from the beginning as they lost both the openers as the golden ducks in the game who faced 2 balls each. Sophie Devine, Jess Kerr and Amelia Kerr were the only batters from New Zealand Women to score in double-digits in the game with 16(26), 11(13) and 10(12) as their batting scores respectively. New Zealand Women were all out at 67 runs in 18.1 overs.

Nonkululeko Mlaba took three wickets for South Africa Women in the game with Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon taking two wickets each. Shabnim Ismail and Ayabonga Khaka took a wicket each in the game for the team to join the wicket-taking party. South Africa Women conceded 3 extras to New Zealand Women while bowling.

Chloe Tryon was the Player of the Match for her 40(34) in batting and 2/12 in bowling.
