In yet another volte-face, Pakistan’s right-arm emerging pacer Ihsanullah has reneged on his announcement of retirement from the Pakistan Super League (PSL), less than hours since he made a call to boycott the marquee T20 competition. It became clear in due course, when the 22-year-old said he was dejected as he remained unchosen during the just-concluded PSL 10 players draft.
Ihsanullah, who became a household name during PSL 8 for his firing pace with a haul of 22 wickets at an average of 15.77, explained in an exclusive interview that he had no genuine plan to retire. “I made the decision emotionally because I was upset after not being selected by any franchises. It was influenced by criticism from the masses and my family,” he shared.
Ihsanullah speaks on PSL retirement, optimistic of bright future
Pacer vowed to make his mark over the coming months. “There’s still time before PSL begins. I will work hard and with Allah’s will, those who didn’t pick me this time may reconsider in the future. Now I will focus on domestic tournaments and improving further,” Ihsanullah added.
The pacer is, however confident of his growth despite the frustration that is evident in these early days. He also sent words of solace to worried fans on his bowling speed: he is regularly bowling at 130-135 kmph, which rises to 142 kmph in matches. He is thus confident of regaining his form in the next PSL season.
Ihsanullah thanked the Pakistan Cricket Board for the opportunities at the domestic level that gave him opportunities to develop his skills. He also apologised to the PSL franchises for reacting in a hasty manner. “The decision I made last night was wrong and I apologise. I shouldn’t have let my emotions take over,” he said.
The refocusing of his attention and the renewing of his determination have gotten Ihsanullah preparing for a comeback in full swing, all for the sake of his fans.
