Multan Sultans’ miserable campaign in the 2025 Pakistan Super League came to a crushing end on Thursday at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, as they suffered a massive 87-run defeat at the hands of Karachi Kings , their seventh loss in eight matches.
Put into bat first, Karachi Kings put on a batting masterclass, piling up a daunting 204/4 in their 20 overs. It was James Vince who starred with a commanding 65* off 45 deliveries, playing the anchor role after early fireworks from openers Tim Seifert (22 off 11) and David Warner (30 off 13). Khushdil Shah added late impetus with a whirlwind 33* from just 13 balls, helping the Kings post their second 200+ total of the season.
Multan Sultans eliminated, Karachi Kings keep hopes alive
Multan’s bowlers struggled to keep things tight, with Ubaid Shah’s 2/49 being the only silver lining in an otherwise expensive bowling display. Michael Bracewell conceded 24 runs in just one over, while Chris Jordan went wicketless for 46 runs.
In response, Multan’s chase never took off. Their hopes were dealt a blow in just the second over when skipper Mohammad Rizwan was dismissed for a duck. From there, the innings unraveled in a heap. Only Yasir Khan (26 off 17) and Kamran Ghulam (29 off 25) offered brief resistance, but no one else got going. Wickets kept tumbling, and the Sultans were bundled out for just 117 in 16.1 overs.
Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi turned back the clock with a superb spell of 3/14, while Khushdil Shah (2/26) and Mir Hamza (2/15) also chipped in as Karachi dominated with both bat and ball.
This loss officially eliminates Multan Sultans from the playoff race, confirming their place at the bottom of the table. Despite a talented squad on paper, the franchise failed to find any momentum throughout the tournament and ends its campaign with just one win in eight matches, a disappointing finish for a team that once lifted the trophy.
Meanwhile, Karachi Kings, with this emphatic win, stay in the hunt for a playoff spot, gaining crucial two points and a significant net run rate boost. They are now fourth on the table.
