West Indies ODI squad 2025 preparations are in full swing, with a familiar 15-man team named to face Ireland and England in back-to-back away series. The squad retains most of the players who featured in their whitewash of Bangladesh late last year, signaling a clear intent to build stability as they target the 2027 World Cup.
Notably, Shimron Hetmyer misses out on the West Indies squad as he remains engaged with IPL duties. In his absence, promising talent Jewel Andrew reclaims his spot, hoping to add firepower to a side led by skipper Shai Hope. Hope is expected to open the innings alongside either Brandon King or Evin Lewis, with Keacy Carty likely taking the pivotal No. 3 position.
Fast bowlers Shamar Joseph and Matthew Forde are back in contention after sitting out the Bangladesh series due to injury, while Amir Jangoo, fresh off a memorable hundred on debut, is another name to watch closely.
West Indies ODI squad 2025 prepares for upcoming World Cup
The Windies enter this six-match ODI stretch sitting ninth on the ICC ODI rankings, but their recent form tells a more promising story. After securing ODI series wins over both Bangladesh and England in 2024, they now shift their focus to Dublin and then Edgbaston. The squad is part of a broader roadmap aimed at direct qualification for the next World Cup in South Africa and Zimbabwe.
“This tour is about more than just match results, it’s about building a mindset,” said head coach Daren Sammy. “The consistency we’ve started to see is encouraging, but we know conditions in Ireland and England will test us in new ways.”
Behind the scenes, the coaching bench sees a shuffle too. Ravi Rampaul steps in as bowling coach, replacing James Franklin, while Kevin O’Brien, once a hero for Ireland, joins the Windies coaching setup for the Irish leg.
The action begins May 21 at Clontarf Cricket Club in Dublin, with three ODIs against Ireland. The squad then shifts to England for another three-match ODI series starting May 29, followed by T20Is for which the squad is yet to be revealed.
