In spite of increased geopolitical turbulence in the region, the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL 2025) games will continue as scheduled. This is in the wake of Indian missile launches across the Pakistani border last Wednesday morning, which India says was in retaliation for last month’s Pahalgam terror attack, something Pakistan vehemently denies.
While Islamabad claimed that 26 Pakistani nationals were murdered and Indian planes were brought down as a response, the ongoing violence has invoked global interest. Nevertheless, the Pakistan Super League 2025 will continue, including Wednesday’s planned match between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators in Rawalpindi.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was confirmed, without mentioning the continuous military upticks, that the tournament calendar is still intact. Games will proceed in Rawalpindi, a city now under increased scrutiny as the local situation continues to be charged. The declaration comes as tensions have increased, particularly among foreign players and staff already in Pakistan.
PSL 2025 to Continue as Scheduled as PCB Holds Firm on League
Security issues have left players and officials on high alert. English players are split down the middle, with some said to be mulling an early departure, while others are determined to remain, at least for the time being. The Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) has spoken to the 15-strong English delegation to keep them informed and advised. Official UK travel advice has yet to alter, and venues being used by the Pakistan Super League 2025 are unaffected by the cross-border conflict.
Bangladesh’s cricket board is also keeping a close eye on things. While they’ve let their players Nahid Rana and Rishad Hossain stay in Pakistan, the BCB underlined that their security is the top priority. BCB President Faruque Ahmed has personally kept in touch with PSL officials and with the players themselves to check on their mental and physical health.
While certain PSL franchises say that their foreign players are willing to carry on for the time being, all recognize that the ephemerality of the situation may drive quick changes. With military and diplomatic tensions escalating, cricket goes on, but under the specter of the unknown. For the time being, however, the drama rolls on in Pakistan Super League 2025, even as the world closely observes.
