BCCI finalizes schedule for WPL 2025, set to kick off from February 6

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has tentatively locked in a schedule for the third season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2025). Sources indicate that the tournament will run from February 6 to March 9, 2025. Though the dates are yet to be confirmed officially, franchises were reportedly informed about this window during the recent WPL auction in Bengaluru.

WPL 2025 schedule announced with plans to add new teams next season

Like the previous two seasons, Season 3 will have 22 matches. Plans to add a new team to the league have been put on the back burner, leaving the teams as they are now. The defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), will be entering the competition to retain their title.

The venues remain an issue. Mumbai and Bengaluru have apparently been ticked off the list. A top Karnataka State Cricket Association official said Bengaluru, the base of RCB, would not be considered. Similarly, Mumbai, the base for Mumbai Indians, is not on the list of considerations as of now by the BCCI.

Delhi is unlikely too as the weather is not pleasant in February. The possibilities are now narrowed down to Lucknow, which hosts UP Warriorz, and Ahmedabad, which houses Gujarat Giants. However, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad may not be fully available for the tournament, making Lucknow a strong contender. A decision on the venues is awaited.

The scheduling is in line with the IPL calendar, which begins on March 14, with a week-long gap after the WPL concludes. It is strategic planning to avoid any disruption between the two marquee tournaments.
