Karachi’s iconic National Bank Stadium has undergone a remarkable revamp, emerging as a state-of-the-art cricketing venue just in time for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officially unveiled the upgraded stadium in a grand ceremony on Tuesday, celebrating its rapid 120-day overhaul.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, along with Governor Kamran Tessori, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, and other dignitaries, marked the momentous occasion. The stadium now boasts modern LED floodlights, advanced digital screens, upgraded pavilions, and thousands of brand-new spectator seats, ensuring a world-class experience for players and fans alike.
A Night to Remember – Fireworks, Music, and More!
The unveiling event was nothing short of a spectacle, with Ali Zafar, Shafqat Amanat Ali, and Sahir Ali Bagga delivering electrifying performances. A stunning light and fireworks show further elevated the excitement, creating an unforgettable night for cricket enthusiasts.
Speaking at the ceremony, CM Murad Ali Shah praised the PCB’s efforts in upgrading Karachi’s premier cricket venue. He reaffirmed his commitment to revitalizing sports infrastructure in the city, promising continued support for local and international events.
“Karachi has always been a cricket-loving city. With these upgrades, we are ready to host the world’s best teams,” he said, expressing confidence in Pakistan’s squad ahead of the Champions Trophy.
A Stadium Fit for Global Cricket
The National Bank Stadium, formerly known as National Stadium Karachi, has been reborn with cutting-edge features, including:
- New LED floodlights for better visibility
- Dual high-tech digital scoreboards
- Upgraded seating and enclosures for fans
- Refurbished dressing rooms for players
Nearly 5,000 workers contributed to the stadium’s overhaul, ensuring it was ready in time for major international clashes. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who closely monitored the project, highlighted the board’s commitment to elevating Pakistan’s cricket venues to global standards.
What’s Next? Major Matches Ahead
The revamped stadium is set to host two crucial matches of the ongoing Tri-Nation ODI Series, featuring Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa, on February 12 and 14. More significantly, it will be the battleground for three high-stakes fixtures in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, starting with the Pakistan vs New Zealand opener on February 19.
With its new world-class facilities, Karachi’s National Bank Stadium is poised to welcome top-tier cricket back to Pakistan, reinforcing the country’s reputation as a premier host for international tournaments.
