India Tour of Bangladesh in Limbo as BCCI Awaits Government Clearance

The much-anticipated India tour of Bangladesh is hanging in the balance, as diplomatic and political hurdles delay final confirmation. Originally scheduled for August 17, the series is supposed to include three ODIs and three T20Is, but the likelihood of it happening as planned is shrinking by the day.

According to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently waiting on their government’s green signal before committing. Aminul remains optimistic, saying discussions with India are ongoing and positive, even if the series doesn’t happen in August, it may be rescheduled soon.

“We’re not stuck on the original dates,” he stated. “We’re talking to BCCI about when the India tour of Bangladesh can realistically take place. If it’s not August, we’ll find a better window.”

Simon Taufel Joins Umpiring Project, Women’s Cricket to See Major Changes

Amid the uncertainty around the India tour of Bangladesh, the BCB has made some bold internal moves. One of the biggest headlines from the 19th board meeting at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium was the appointment of Simon Taufel, a former elite ICC umpire, to lead Bangladesh’s umpire education program for the next three years.

“This is a major step for umpiring standards in our country,” Aminul confirmed, adding that the deal is nearly finalized.

Additionally, BCB is set to include a female selector in the women’s national selection committee. Until now, Sazzad Ahmed was the sole selector for the women’s side, but the board is now expanding both the men’s and women’s selection teams. Gazi Ashraf and Abdur Razzak currently handle men’s selections, but a third member is expected soon.

Looking ahead, the next edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will kick off between December and January. A fresh cycle will begin with franchises signing five-year agreements. BCB is also in discussions with top-tier sports event management firms to streamline tournament operations.
