Maratha Royals Clinch T20 Mumbai League Title, Falcons Fall Short Again
The Maratha Royals emerged victorious in the T20 Mumbai League 2025 Final, defeating SoBo Mumbai Falcons by five wickets at a packed Wankhede Stadium on Thursday night. The win sealed the Royals’ maiden title in a hard-fought contest, while Falcons skipper Shreyas Iyer suffered a second straight T20 final defeat in as many weeks.
Sutar and Khan Steer the Chase
Set a target of 158, the Royals timed their chase to perfection. Impact Player Chinmay Sutar played a composed knock of 53 off 49 deliveries, anchoring the innings after an early reprieve. He was well-supported by Awais Khan, who injected momentum with a brisk 38 off 24 balls.
Their 75-run stand in nine overs turned the tide, with Khan’s clean hitting dismantling the Falcons’ spin attack. Despite both falling late in the innings, veteran Rohan Raje held his nerve and finished the match with just four balls remaining.
Falcons’ Late Surge Falls Short
After losing the toss, SoBo Mumbai struggled early and managed just 60 runs in the first 10 overs. Captain Shreyas Iyer fell for 12 in an attempt to up the scoring rate with a reverse sweep that backfired.
The rescue act came from Mayuresh Tandel (50* off 32) and Harsh Aghav (45* off 28), who combined for a dynamic 85-run partnership in the final overs. Their late charge lifted the Falcons to 157/4, a competitive score that still fell just short under pressure.
Royals Hold Their Nerve
In a contest defined by temperament and timing, the Maratha Royals stayed calm under pressure. Bowlers like Vaibhav Mali (2/32) kept the Falcons in check, while the batters executed the chase with maturity.
For Iyer and the Falcons, it was another painful finish. For the Royals, it was a moment of glory and a testament to building a team that peaks at the right time.
