Pretoria Capitals secured a commanding six-wicket win over Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 Season 3, marking the Sunrisers’ second bonus point defeat this season. The match at Centurion saw the Capitals captain Rilee Rossouw opting to bowl first, a decision that paid dividends as the Sunrisers crumbled to 4/3 within two overs and struggled to 50/6.
Sunrisers Struggle with the Bat
The Sunrisers found some respite in a 40-run partnership between Marco Jansen (51 off 35 balls) and Simon Harmer. Jansen’s aggressive innings included four boundaries and three sixes, but once Harmer fell to Senuran Muthusamy, the Sunrisers’ innings collapsed, ending at a subpar 113 all out.
Capitals’ Chase Anchored by Ackerman and Livingstone
In response, the Capitals began strongly with Will Jacks scoring a brisk 27 off 23 balls. Despite losing Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Kyle Verreynne, and Rossouw, the Capitals remained in control. The unbeaten 55-run stand between Marques Ackerman (39 not out) and Liam Livingstone (14 not out) guided them home, with Ackerman hitting a six off the final ball of the 16th over to secure the bonus point victory.
