The Rangpur Riders, reigning champions of the Global Super League, have confirmed a well-rounded squad as they prepare to defend their crown in the 2025 edition of the tournament, scheduled from July 10 to 18 at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence.
Following a dramatic turnaround in 2024—where they bounced back from three straight losses to win their final three games and lift the title—the Riders enter this year’s event with confidence, depth, and proven match-winners.
Led once again by Nurul Hasan Sohan, whose leadership was instrumental in last season’s success, Rangpur has opted for consistency with several key players retained. Soumya Sarkar, the top run-scorer of the previous edition, returns alongside Kamrul Islam Rabbi, who led the bowling unit with precision and consistency.
The Riders have also bolstered their squad with global T20 talent. Kyle Mayers adds explosive power at the top of the order, while Tabraiz Shamsi, a crafty left-arm wrist spinner from South Africa, brings his spin magic to Caribbean conditions. Iftikhar Ahmed of Pakistan and Afghan top-order batter Ibrahim Zadran provide additional firepower and experience in the middle.
Domestic talents such as Mahidul Islam Ankon, Rakibul Hasan, and Yasir Ali Chowdhury form the backbone of the squad, ensuring a strong local presence that understands subcontinental strategies and conditions.
With a blend of youth and experience, the Riders seem poised for another strong campaign. Their ability to adapt under pressure, showcased last year, makes them one of the favorites heading into the tournament.
The Global Super League is expected to be more competitive than ever, with franchises bringing in international stars and emerging talent. For Rangpur, the mission is clear: retain the trophy and solidify their dominance on the international franchise circuit.
