Peshawar Zalmi’s veteran fast bowler, Wahab Riaz, is determined to make a comeback in the national side through his performance in the ongoing eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). In an interview with Geo.tv, Wahab expressed his desire to play for Pakistan and stated that the PSL is the perfect platform to grab the attention of selectors.
Despite being replaced as captain of the Peshawar Zalmi team by Babar Azam, Wahab remains a key player and is focused on maintaining a good performance in the league. He acknowledges that success in the first match has boosted his confidence and a good combination of the team has been formed.
In addition to his cricket career, Wahab was recently named to the Punjab government’s caretaker cabinet. He intends to use his position to support and promote other sports besides cricket, including hockey, squash, and badminton. His aim is to conduct more tournaments and provide incentives to players to encourage their participation in these sports.
Reflecting on his recent exhibition match against Quetta Gladiators, where he was hit for six sixes in a row by Iftikhar Ahmed, Wahab expressed his nonchalance about the outcome. He credited Ahmed for his impressive form and acknowledged that hitting six sixes is no small feat.
Wahab’s passion for cricket and other sports is evident in his desire to make a positive impact on the sports industry in Pakistan. He recognizes the privilege that cricketers enjoy and wants to use his position to provide more opportunities for other athletes.
As the Peshawar Zalmi team prepares for their next match against Multan Sultans, Wahab remains committed to his goal of making a comeback in the national team and contributing to the growth and development of other sports in Pakistan.
