Shaheen Afridi showcased his prowess as a lethal bowler in the 2023 T20 Blast match between Nottinghamshire and Lancashire. After a stunning delivery that dismissed Jos Buttler, Afridi continued his rampage by demolishing George Bell’s stumps at Trent Bridge.
Known for his ability to trouble batters in the first over, Afridi has gained a reputation as one of the most dangerous bowlers in T20 cricket. His exceptional late movement on the ball often results in bowled or leg-before-wicket dismissals.
Although Afridi didn’t claim a wicket in the first over, he made a significant breakthrough in the fifth over. With a trademark inswinging yorker delivered with searing pace, he shattered Buttler’s defences, leaving the renowned batsman out of options.
But Afridi wasn’t done yet. Returning to the attack in the 18th over, he executed a perfectly disguised slower ball that completely deceived George Bell. The young wicketkeeper-batsman had his leg and middle stumps uprooted, falling victim to Afridi’s bowling brilliance.
Finishing with figures of 2-25 from three overs, Afridi played a crucial role in restricting Lancashire to 145 runs before they were bowled out in the 19th over. Nottinghamshire successfully chased down the target with five wickets in hand and seven balls to spare, thanks to contributions from their batsmen.
