Sunil Narine, the West Indies spin wizard, has confirmed he will not be coming out of retirement for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Narine called time on his international career in November 2023, but his stellar form in the ongoing IPL, including a maiden T20 century, had ignited rumors of a potential comeback.

Despite leading the run-scoring charts for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with 286 runs and also being their top wicket-taker with nine scalps, Narine has shut the door on international cricket definitively. West Indies captain Rovman Powell and teammates reportedly tried to persuade him, but Narine remained resolute.

In a statement released through KKR, Narine expressed his gratitude for the support.

“I’m truly flattered…,” he wrote, “but that door is now closed.” He emphasized his commitment to cheering on the team: “Guys who have worked hard… deserve to win another title – I wish you all the best.”

Narine’s decision brings the curtain down on his illustrious international career. While his recent IPL performances sparked speculation, it appears his focus remains firmly on league cricket. This will be a blow to West Indies’ hopes in the T20 World Cup, but Narine’s dedication to his current team and his support for his former teammates are a testament to his character.
